Monday 26th July
Everytime I come back from the World Championships my friends and family ask me what sights I visited. I never have any good answers because I always view these trips as business. If I can get get some sightseeing in at the end that's great, but my job is to go fast. Having said this though, there are some things that I do observe when I am overseas.
1) Far too many European men think they look good in "banana hamock" swimming briefs. This opinion seems to increase with the age of the man.
2) Lance is the man!
3) Siesta time is a gobsmacking brilliant idea. It's 2 or 3 hours in the middle of the day when it is culturally acceptable to nap. I have been trying to start a grassroots movement in the U.S., but so far I have been unsuccessful. The Spanish must have a wicked strong lobby.
4) All European bus drivers play cheesy American music. I am never sure whether this is a function of the uncertainty principle. Do they play this crap because they actually like it or because they think they have to as they are driving around Americans. I never ask in case it turns out to be the former. It's never a good idea to insult the person who can leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
5) I will never get tired of putting on the unisuit and representing the U.S. against the best in the world.
That's it for now, racing starts tomorrow so it's time to get ready for fight club.
later,
the saw
